Dies Academicus: Awards and Recognitions of the University of Zagreb to HATZ Members

On the occasion of the University of Zagreb Day (Dies Academicus), which has taken place on Monday, November 3, 2016 in Zagreb, the University has granted awards and recognitions to numerous distinguished university professors and scientists.

The Croatian Academy of Engineering is particularly pleased and extends its most cordial congratulations to the members of the Academy, who have been granted the following awards and recognitions:

 

-The title of honor Professor Emeritus of the University of Zagreb in the scientific field of Engineering Sciences has been granted to:

  • Prof. Dubravka Bjegović, PhD, retired Full Professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Zagreb, Emeritus of the Croatian Academy of Engineering and Secretary of the Department of Civil Engineering and Geodesy;
  • Prof.  Tomislav Filetin, PhD, retired Full Professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture in Zagreb, Member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture.

 

– The Award Fran Bošnjaković has been granted to:

  • Prof. Sven Lončarić, PhD, Full Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, Member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering and Secretary of the Department of Information Systems.

This notable award has been granted to Professor Lončarić for his exceptional results in the field of scientific and professional activity, promotion of the scientific discipline and profession and for the remarkable contribution to the transfer of knowledge and the education of young experts in the field of Engineering Sciences.

Professor Sven Lončarić has graduated from as well as obtained his MSc at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Zagreb, Croatia, and obtained his PhD at the University of Cincinnati in the USA. he is Full Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb.

His primary fields of work are digital image processing and computer vision as well as their application in the various fields of human activity such as biomedicine, industrial visual quality control and remote research.

Professor Lončarić has published 44 scientific papers  in journals, 150  papers at the scientific congresses and 4 papers as chapters in books. According to Google Scholar Database, these papers have until now been cited 2585 times, with h-index  equalling 22. He is one of the most cited researchers in the field of Engineering Sciences in Croatia.

Professor Lončarić has been either project leader of project associate on 51 research and development projects, a significant number of which have been in cooperation with the economy. He is the Head of the Image Processing Research Laboratory at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb and President of the Committee for Biomedicine Engineering at the University of Zagreb as well as the Head of Nacional Scientific Excellence Center for the data science and cooperative systems.

He cooperates with a number of scientists from Croatia and abroad. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Computing and Information Technology and currently serves as the Associate Editor of EURASIP Journal of Image and Video Communication. He has established, presided over and organized many international scientific conferences and menthored more than 100 students at all study levels. Professor Lončarić has been granted the FER Annual Science Award and is a Member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering.

 

– Special Recognitions of the University of Zagreb have been awarded to the following University of Zagreb professors:

 

For the dedicated and engaged work in the University bodies as well as for development and implementation of the strategic investment project “Nikola Tesla Innovation Center” at the University of Zagreb:

  • Nedjeljko Perić, PhD, Full Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, Member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering in the Department of Systems and Cybernetics and Chairman of the Committee for Economic and Regional Cooperation;
  • Mislav Grgić, PhD, Full Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb, Member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering in the Department of Communication Systems and Dean of FER, which is a Supporting Member of the Academy;

 

For the dedicated word in the University bodies, particularly as a member of the enlarged Rector’s Collegium, and especially for the founding of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology’s subsidiary company (spin-off) as well as contribution to technology transfer at the University of Zagreb:

  •  Bruno Zelić, PhD, Full Professor at the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology in Zagreb, Member of the Croatian Academy of Engineering in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Dean of FKIT, which is a Supporting Member of the Academy;

 

For the dedicated and engaged work in the University bodies, particularly for the contribution to the Committee for Science and International Cooperation, and especially for the coordination of work of the Consortium EIT-KIC (European Institute of Technology – Knowledge Innovation Community) Raw materials at the University of Zagreb:

  • Zoran Nakić, PhD, Full Professor at the Faculty of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum Engineering in Zagreb and Dean of RGNF, which is a Supporting Member of the Croatian Academy of Enigneering.
